About ImageCocoon
Free image tools built on one simple promise: your photos never leave your device.
Why we built ImageCocoon
Most online image tools ask you to upload your photos to their servers. For a quick job like shrinking a passport photo for a form, that means a copy of your picture, often of you, your family, your ID or your home, travels across the internet and sits on someone else’s computer. We didn’t think that trade-off was necessary.
Modern browsers are powerful enough to edit images on their own. So we built a set of tools that do exactly that. Your photo is opened, changed and saved on your own device, and nothing is sent anywhere. Because there’s no upload, there’s also no waiting for one.
Where the name comes from
A cocoon is where change happens safely, out of sight. Your photo goes in, gets compressed, resized or cropped, and comes back out transformed, without ever leaving your hands. ImageCocoon is the sister site of PDFCocoon, which does the same for PDF files.
How it works
Every tool on ImageCocoon is written in JavaScript and runs inside your browser tab, using the browser’s own image engine and, where it helps, open-source codecs compiled to WebAssembly. Our servers only deliver the web page itself. They never receive your images.
You can check this yourself: open your browser’s developer tools, switch to the Network tab and use any tool. You’ll see that no request contains your image.
How we keep it free
ImageCocoon is free to use with no sign-up, no limits and no watermarks. We cover our costs with a small number of clearly labelled ads. Ads never have access to your images, because your images never leave your device.
Who runs it
ImageCocoon is run by Dulanka Katugampala, based in Sri Lanka. Questions, ideas or bug reports are always welcome. Get in touch.
